While people say books are one’s best friend, they often also help in making new connections across the world. Your favourite author’s iconic dialogue or that classic novel that never goes out of style, people often connect with each other over their shared love for books, and love for reading also brings people together quite often.

Love for literature often can up the possibility to make new connections or even a deeper bond with your partner. So what genres are single Indians reading? Based on Bumble's internal data, the ‘romance’ genre has been the most popular Interest badge when it comes to reading throughout the last month and ranked the highest for women on Bumble in India. It was followed by ‘fantasy’ as the second most popular interest badge in the reading category, while ‘thriller’ and ‘mystery’ ranked third. 

Couples on the platform revealed how they bonded over their shared love for books and reading:

Sunidhi said, “Reading was one of the ice-breakers for my conversation with Kushal on the platform. I had mentioned I am a reader in my profile bio, and when we used Bumble’s Question Game feature, I had also mentioned, “a perfect rainy day reading a book with my coffee” as one of my answers. We had a conversation about how Kushal wanted to inculcate reading and that he likes thrillers. I remember telling him that I wasn't an avid reader but was working towards being one. We bonded over books right from the start!”

Deepti shares, “Kishan and I talked about reading during our initial conversations. I am more of a fantasy reader, I enjoy Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings while he is a pure comic head. We constantly clashed about how one genre is better than the other, but this was always a topic that led to some very interesting conversations between us.”

Over the past year, Bumble has made several updates to its platform, including introducing 150 new interest badges in dating profiles to help people share details of their personalities in a fun and easy way. Its community can select up to five badges from over 150 interests that range in various categories including sports, creative hobbies, the preferred choice of activities while choosing to stay in or go out,  favourite movies, television shows, music and books.
