November 4, 2019 (IANSlife) On Saturday, auction-house Sotheby’s hosted an evening to showcase the key highlights from their much anticipated ‘Boundless: India’ auction in New Delhi.
This is the second auction in the category and the preview featured an array of artworks with a mix of paintings, photographs and sculptures at a leading hotel in the Capital.
The intimate evening was hosted by Edward Gibbs, Chairman, Sotheby’s India and Middle East, Yamini Mehta the Deputy Chairman of Indian and South Asian Art, Ishrat Kanga who heads the Sale, and Shivajirao Gaekwar, Sotheby’s India’s Deputy Director and Specialist. Seminal works by two of India’s foremost painters – V. S. Gaitonde and F. N. Souza were the center of attention.
Both artworks were among the artists’ finest paintings to come to auction. The pieces have remained in private collections for many decades.
Other notable pieces of art on display included works from S. H. Raza, Bhupen Khakhar’s estates, MF Hussain, Sudhir Patwardhan, Piraji Sagara, Amrita Sher-gil, sculptures from Sadanand Bakhre and Prodosh Dasgupta amongst many others. The Boundless: India auction comprises of over 60 lots spanning Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art, photography, design and sculpture.
The auction will take place at The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Apollo Bandar, in Mumbai, Maharashtra on Friday, 15th November, 2019 at 7pm.
